Our Story
The Heart Behind Leaps & Hounds
Hi, I’m Leah Stephens, the heart behind Leaps & Hounds Hawaii.
My love for dogs has been a lifelong journey. For years, I’ve been an animal advocate and volunteer with Action 4 Animals Hawaii, and you can often find me at Petco adoption events and community events helping our island dogs find loving homes.
My very first beloved dog was Zach, my Zachy Boy. He taught me about unconditional love and was by my side through some of the hardest moments of my life. Although I lost him years ago, I miss him every day, and his memory continues to inspire me.
Today, my three dogs, Beau, Emily Rose, and Mason, are my world. Along with Zach, they are the four dogs who inspired Leaps & Hounds and our logo. My dear friend Eliza Marks, an incredible artist, brought that vision to life by creating the beautiful portrait that inspired our logo.
I’ve always loved caring for dogs, whether they were my own, rescue dogs, or the pets of friends and family. Seeing dogs happy, playing, learning, and simply being themselves is where I’m happiest.
That love inspired me to create Leaps & Hounds Hawaii, a small, home-based daycare with a maximum of six dogs. Here, pups receive personalized care, supervised play, enrichment, socialization, and plenty of time to relax in a calm, low-stress environment.
I know how hard it can be to leave your dog home alone while you’re at work. At Leaps & Hounds, your pup can spend the day playing, socializing, exploring, and being enriched, while you have peace of mind knowing they’re cared for in a loving home environment.
Leaps & Hounds is more than a daycare. It’s a place built from a lifelong love of dogs.
Leah
Our Advocacy
Making a difference for our island dogs
Animal rescue is something that is very close to my heart. I am proud to volunteer with Action 4 Animals Hawaii Doggie Brigade, an organization whose mission and dedication to helping animals in need means so much to me.
Through my volunteer work, I have had the privilege of seeing firsthand the difference that compassion, time, and a community of caring people can make in an animal’s life. Action 4 Animals Hawaii is dedicated to “Saving Lives, One Animal at a Time,” and I am honored to support their mission.
Every dog deserves the chance to feel safe, loved, and part of a family. Whether they are waiting for their forever home, looking for a foster family, or simply in need of someone to believe in them, these animals deserve our compassion and support.
If you have ever thought about getting involved in animal rescue, I encourage you to learn more about Action 4 Animals Hawaii. There are so many ways to make a difference, whether you adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate.
This organization means a great deal to me, and it would mean the world to the animals they work so hard to save if you would consider supporting them too.
Together, we can make a difference for the dogs in our island community.
